Travellers and Tourists can reach Diani via Air travel, Train or by road.
Travel by Air to Diani Kenya
The Mombasa international Airport is used for International flights and also for flights from Nairobi Jomo Kenya International Airport. One would then take a taxi from the airport to Diani through the Likoni Ferry. It takes from 1.5 hours to 2 hours depending on the ferry traffica and also traffic in the Mombasa Island.
It is expected travel to Diani from the Airport will ease once the Dongo Kundu bypass is completed in a few years time. This will enable the visitors to bypass the ferry and the Mombasa Island.
The other option and which is mostly used by tourists is the use of Ukunda Airstrip for the light air crafts. There are daily flights to this air strip from Nairobi and other parts of the country. At times, one can choose to fly from Diani to Maasai mara directly. The Diani Beach Cottage is about 5 minutes drive.
Travel by Train to South Coast Kenya
Rift Valley Railways operate a train service between Nairobi and Mombasa and has three train services per week. From Nairobi To Mombasa, these are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The return trips from Mombasa to Nairobi are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The train leaves each side at around 6:30 pm and reaches its destination about 9:00am of the following day.
The train offers 1st class, 2nd class and third class options to the travellers and with different rates. The 1st and 2nd class are booked with breakfast included.
From the Mombasa Island Terminus one can choose whether to use public transport or hire a taxi to Diani. The taxi ride can take from 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending on the traffic jam
Getting to South Coast Mombasa by Road Transport
A great majority of the local travellers uses the publi transport. We have buses that ply Ukunda to Nairobi such as Chania Genesis, Chania Cool, etc. These goes directly to Ukunda. Other travellers would normally drive from Nairobi or other destinations through the Mombasa Island and crossing the ferry to join the Likoni Lunga Lunga road.
They would then drive on this highway to Ukunda and then to Diani. For those travellers on Safari to Simba hills National Park, they could access Diani through the Kwale route.
There are plans build a connection route to connect the Nairobi Highway to the Likoni Lunga Lunga road through the Mbuguni and Tsunza areas. This will shorten the time road users take to reach Diani and this will fuel further the growth of Diani Kenya as holiday destination.
Diani Beach Kenya is famous tourist destination for both local and international travellers.
